October 19th - 21st, 2007 - Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Monterey, CA
The IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge moves to California for the final round of the American LeMans Series Season and the final Rounds 10 and 11 of the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge.
We'll be on hand as usual working with our customers and friends as they make the trek out to California for what has been an extremely competitive season.
One of our customers and local driver Bob Faieta joined the series this year to see how he can do against some of the best young US drivers in GT racing. The IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge is designed to introduce new talent to the potential with major teams in the ALMS series, and Porsche Motorsport has put a lot of effort behind this series, as they have in the Carrera Cup series that runs throughout Europe, Australia and Asia. Porsche Motorsport looks for this as an opportunity to bring new talent to the forefront of professional racing, and opportunities for their Porsche racing customers. Sometimes they pick a select few of those that do so well for opportunities as factory drivers, and this certainly has to be on the minds of the two front runners this season.
Only 4 points separate the leaders, so this will be some race. Weather permitting, it may be the most exciting two races of the weekend.
The IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge doesn't allow professional drivers, so the field is filled with talented club racers who have an opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities, and learn what it takes to enter professional racing. One of the big issues with the series is car to car - contact not allowed in club racing. To be in the points you have to finish, so learning to stay out of trouble and to avoid those drivers who think the rules are for everyone else while fighting for position can be difficult. IMSA officals have demonstrated they intend to enforce sportsman like behavior though and have already sent drivers home that don't practice good clean racing. Bob has been working hard this season to avoid such drivers and get out front with enough lead to stay clear of trouble.
